VIÑA ZORZAL Graciano 2024
Description
Viña Zorzal Graciano 2024 is one of the most unique and representative wines from Viña Zorzal Wines, the family-owned winery located in Corella that has led the viticultural renaissance of Navarra by restoring old vineyards of indigenous varieties. A pioneering project that has made the Ribera Baja de Navarra a benchmark of the "new Navarra": fresh wines with an elegant profile, unbeatable value for money, and a very pronounced sense of terroir.
Made with 100% Graciano grapes from the winery's own vineyards located in the municipality of Corella, in the heart of the Ribera Baja de Navarra. The vines are 40 years old and are grown on trellises over clay and silt soils. Graciano is one of the oldest and noblest red varieties of the Iberian Peninsula, historically linked to Rioja and Navarra: a late-ripening grape that, in the hands of Viña Zorzal, expresses its full aromatic potential and characteristic natural acidity. The winery has spent more than two decades championing its recovery as a variety with its own value, not just as a blending grape.
The winemaking process seeks the maximum expression of the variety with minimal intervention: hand harvesting. Light pre-fermentation maceration at 8°C to extract the aromatic potential of the grape without harshness. Alcoholic fermentation in 15,000-liter stainless steel tanks with gentle pump-overs to preserve freshness. 25% underwent malolactic fermentation in new French fine-grain barrels, adding complexity and body to the blend. The wine then undergoes 9 months of aging on the lees in new medium-plus toasted French oak barrels, which elegantly integrates the wood and adds structure without losing the varietal freshness.
Of medium-bodied garnet color, clean and bright with natural chromatic intensity. On the nose, intense, complex, and highly expressive: forest fruits, ripe red fruit, mineral notes, herbal, balsamic, and spicy nuances. On the palate, dry, fresh, and with very pronounced acidity — the unmistakable signature of Graciano — with a direct entry, fine tannins that provide structure, a good balance between fruit and spices, and a long, persistent finish. Broad, balanced, and full-bodied.
Serving temperature: 14-16°C. Ideal for red meats, cured meats, cheeses, stews, rice dishes, and assorted tapas.
