The Dalmore Distillery

The Dalmore Distillery

Gift of a King, the12-point royal deerproudly adorns every bottle of The Dalmore. It represents the distillery's royal heritage, dating back to 1263. The emblem was awarded to Colin de Kintail, the first chief of Clan Mackenzie, after he saved the life of King Alexander III of Scotland from the furious charge of a towering stag.

Founded by Sir Alexander Matheson in 1839, The Dalmore distillery has since produced authentic whiskey masterpieces on the banks of the Cromarty Firth.

For more than 180 years, The Dalmore has established the foundations of the multi-barrel maturation process. Barrels expertly selected from the world's best wineries and vineyards to create a sumptuous and complex whiskey of legendary finesse.

In 1839, The Dalmore distillery was founded by Alexander Matheson, an adventurous merchant determined to create an exceptional single malt whisky. In 1867, descendants of the Mackenzie clan took control of the distillery. One of his first changes was to adorn each bottle of The Dalmore with the deer emblem, a guarantee of unmatched quality.

The idiosyncratic collection of stills at the distillery creates a unique, robust and fruity New Make Spirit, especially designed for longer and more complex maturation. This allows our producers to ensure that each barrel of our spirit reaches its maximum potential.

Richard Paterson, a pioneer in the art of maturation in the finest casks, was the creative force at The Dalmore for nearly five decades. He paved the way for our current Master Whiskey Maker Gregg Glass, who continues an unbroken chain of visionary whiskey makers, always pushing the limits to mature our spirit in the most exclusive barrels.

Through an unbroken chain of visionary whiskey makers, The Dalmore has forged lasting relationships with some of the best wineries and vineyards in the world, securing exclusive access to their best casks.

Under the expert eyes of our whiskey makers, time, the barrel and art come together to shape our spirit and create an incomparable whiskey. The Dalmore is a masterpiece, brewed with the relentless goal of developing the full potential of our Single Malt.

The Dalmore distillery is currently closed to the public.  A new experience will be inaugurated in 2026.
