Description

López Cristóbal Albillo 2024 is one of the most unique and authentic whites from the Ribera del Duero DO, produced by Bodegas López Cristóbal in Roa de Duero (Burgos). A barrel-fermented white with very limited production that demonstrates the enormous potential of the Albillo Mayor variety in a denomination historically associated with red wines.

Made from 100% Albillo Mayor grapes from the Finca La Linde, with 50-year-old vines located at an altitude of 770 meters on calcareous-loamy soils in Roa de Duero. The harvest is entirely manual, with grapes placed in fruit crates and subsequently sorted on a sorting table at the winery. Extremely limited production of just 5,250 bottles.

The winemaking is elegant and respectful of the variety: 100% fermentation in new French oak barrels with lees aging for 3 months, which adds complexity, texture, and that subtle creamy and toasted touch that distinguishes a well-made Albillo. The wine then ages for 6 months in the bottle before being released. The result is a serious white, with structure and aging potential.

With a golden yellow color, clean and bright. On the nose, fresh and elegant: ripe white fruit such as pear, apple, and peach, delicate floral notes, and harmonious toasted touches from barrel fermentation. On the palate, it is balanced, broad, and full of personality, with a smooth and creamy texture, good acidity that provides freshness and tension, and a long, persistent finish. A serious wine, ready to age in the bottle.

Serving temperature: 9–12°C. Ideal with grilled or baked fish, seafood, white rice dishes, pasta with creamy sauces, foie gras, and semi-cured cheeses.
