Flor de Caña Licorera

This story began in 1875 when Alfredo Francisco Pellas Canessa, a young adventurer from Genoa, Italy, decided to risk everything by leaving behind his family and the comforts of the old continent to travel to the exotic country of Nicaragua.

Initially, during the Gold Rush, he invested in a shorter and safer steamship route to transport passengers and goods from the US East Coast to the West Coast, passing through Nicaragua. This route was a great success, but upon hearing news of the construction of the Panama Canal and a cross-country railroad in the US, Alfredo Francisco decided it was time to embark on a new venture.

In 1890, he discovered the perfect location to found the Flor de Caña distillery, right in the shadow of the San Cristóbal volcano, the tallest and most active in Nicaragua. The fertility of its land, the rich water, and the high volcanic temperatures proved to be key elements in forging the rum's exceptionally smooth flavor.

Throughout its history, the brand, the company, and the family have experienced an airplane crash, confiscations, hyperinflation, fires, hurricanes, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions.
