Pinot Meunier is a red grape variety famous worldwide for being one of the three main pillars in the production of Champagne, bringing freshness, fruitiness, and a round body to traditional blends alongside Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. "Meunier" means miller in French. This is because the underside of its leaves is covered by a fine white fuzz that resembles flour.

Pinot Mutation: Genetically, it is a mutation of the Pinot family (closely related to Pinot Noir).

Flavor Profile: It usually brings intense notes of fresh red fruits (such as raspberries and blackcurrants), a vibrant acidity, and an approachable and smooth character when the wine is young.

Although it is grown in different parts of the world, its most important areas are:
  • Champagne (France): It occupies approximately one-third of the region's vineyards. It is especially popular in the Marne Valley due to its late budding, which protects it from spring frosts.
  • Germany: Known locally as Schwarzriesling (Black Riesling), it is used to produce light and fruity red wines.
  • Other Regions: Plantations can also be found in cool-climate areas in Oregon, California, and Australia.
