Suntory Yamazaki Distillery

Suntory Yamazaki Distillery

The Yamazaki distillery is Japan's first and oldest single malt whiskey distillery, opened in 1923 by Suntory founder Shinjiro Torii.

Inspired by traditional Scotch whiskey, Torii devised a Japanese approach by choosing a completely different terrain and climate than Scotland to create a unique type of whiskey. The Yamazaki distillery is, therefore, the birthplace of Japanese whiskey. Located proudly on the outskirts of Kyoto, this region was formerly known as "Minaseno", where some of Japan's purest water comes from.

Yamazaki is also the home of Sen no Rikyu, master of the tea ceremony. The Yamazaki distillery is located where the Katsura, Uji and Kizu rivers meet, giving it a peculiar misty climate and one of the softest waters in Japan. The diversity of temperatures and humidity in this region creates ideal conditions for barrel aging, known as the unique "Suntory maturation."

Roku Gin celebrates the exceptional flavors of each of Japan's four seasons at their peak. Meticulously crafted from six unique Japanese natural extracts harvested at their freshest, Roku delicately balances a subtle spiciness with vibrant floral notes, the gentle sweetness of green tea, and the prized citrus character of yuzu. Every sip of Roku offers a taste of the best of each season, inviting you to pause and savor the richness of nature's gifts.

Each season offers fleeting moments brimming with flavor to share with those around us. Roku Gin pays homage to these moments using six natural Japanese extracts from each of the four seasons, harvested at their peak freshness. In Japan, this appreciation of seasonal flavors and nature at its height is known as "Shun."

The delicate combination of spring sakura flower and leaf, summer Sencha (green tea) and Gyokuro (refined green tea), autumn ripening Sanshō pepper and winter Yuzu peel capture the essence of Shun in a bottle, inviting you to savor the seasons throughout the year.
